Resources for Parents


  • Here is a link to the Iowa Core Curriculum.  Using the navigation column on the left, you can see what the standards are for Kindergarten in literacy, math, science, social studies, and 21st century skills.
  • Transitioning to Kindergarten - Research shows that when parents and families are involved, children and schools are more successful.  This article contains resources to keep you involved as your child transitions from preschool to Kindergarten.
  • Kindergarten Important Words - Here are the three Kindergarten Important Words lists! We will assess the red list at the end of the second quarter, the yellow list at the end of the third quarter, and the pink list at the end of the third quarter.
  • Websites:
    • Reading Rockets - This website is packed full of great information on teaching your child how to read.  There are lots of informational videos, podcasts, and blogs for you to check out!
    • Scholastic for Parents - This website is wonderful!  Under books and reading, be sure to check out the age 3-5 and 6-7 ranges for plenty of helpful tips on raising a successful reader.
    • Teach a Child to Read - If you'd like to know how to help develop your child's literacy skills, this website has information broken down into skills on the left column.
